Cedric Terrell

Cedric Terrell is a photographer and director working between New York and Paris. Born and raised in a small town in Florida, he spent seven years on active duty in the Marine Corps before turning to the camera, a shift from a life of fixed structure to one built around looking. That trajectory remains visible in the work: an attentiveness to gesture and detail, and a persistent interest in what a place or a person reveals when they are not performing.

His practice moves across beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and travel, though genre is less the point than a recurring question: how ordinary material, a landscape, a face, a room, becomes legible as extraordinary under sustained attention. Later study at Art Center College of Design gave formal shape to instincts he had already been developing in the field, sharpening a visual language built on instinct as much as method.

As a queer artist, Terrell approaches representation as a condition of the image rather than a subject announced within it, work that holds space for authenticity without asking it to perform. His photographs sit at the intersection of documentary attention and directorial control, equally at home in an unscripted moment or a carefully constructed frame.

Terrell lives and works in Paris and New York.
